Four cuts, but the pull here is how neatly Douster threads them between straight dancehall pressure and clubbier, more electronic ideas. Mixpak’s 2013 vocal EP pairs young Jamaican voices with a French producer who’d clearly spent time studying the genre’s details, not just borrowing its surface sheen, and the result is a set that feels modern without losing the patter and wind-up that make dancehall move. Kantana’s “Dollar Sign” comes in hard and swaggering, Kari Jess eases into the sly slow-burn of “Like a Genie, ” and Keida’s “Neva Lose” gives the record its warm, melodic center. Cee Gee’s “Wine” is the sharpest turn, racing ahead with a faster, more frenetic charge and leaving the strongest final impression.
