Gypsy Riddim (2013) – Mixpak Records

By the time “Gypsy Riddim” rolls in, you can hear Mixpak leaning into something sharper and more uneasy than your usual dancehall shuffle, with Famous Eno threading a tense, siren-lit instrumental around the vocal cuts. Released on December 10, 2013, and presented as a five-track set, it keeps the focus tight: Rubi Dan’s “Terminator” comes in first with menace, Trigganom’s “Murda” follows with a more immediate hook, and Vyral’s “Get Frass” pushes the energy up again. Mixpak, the Brooklyn label founded by Dre Skull in 2009, had already made a name for moving comfortably between club-forward riddims and bigger artist projects, and this one fits that restless approach. Serocee’s “Topatop” adds some playful bite before Eno closes with the instrumental, which feels like the producer leaving the riddim exposed on purpose, all pressure and no filler.
