Icycle Riddim – Aleada Records

Icycle Riddim rolls with that frosty, taut early-2010s dancehall feel, all sharp synth stabs and quick-footed momentum rather than a heavy, sprawling groove. Aleada Records cut it in 2011, and the cast gives it real movement, with Ding Dong’s “Nuh Fraid A You, ” Erup’s “Fear Nobody, ” and Ward 21’s “Feel The Pain” among the tunes that hit hardest. Wayne Marshall turns up too, which helps anchor the project between party talk and tougher, more assertive lyrics. The sequencing keeps the energy in a straight line, moving from Camar’s “Champion Bubbler” through a run of cuts that feel designed for selectors, before closing out with Ricky Chopz and the later voices folding neatly into the same icy, clipped framework.
