VP Records’ Ice Breaka Riddim arrived in 2005 as part of the label’s Riddim Driven line, with the production credited to Delano Thomas, Michael Jarrett and Andre Saunders. VP’s Riddim Driven imprint had become a major way of packaging dancehall in the early 2000s, and Ice Breaka fits that era’s glossy, radio-ready approach.

The rhythm has a sharp, uptempo bounce with a clean digital swing and a bright, marching drive that leaves plenty of room for the chants and hooks. It is the kind of jugglable dancehall cut that works as well for crowd-forward party tunes as it does for sharper, more competitive badman talk. The title version closes the set and underlines how much of the appeal comes from the instrumental itself, not just the vocal records riding it.

Elephant Man is the obvious pressure point here, with “Nuh Junjo” and “Bad Mind People” tapping the animated, physical style that made him one of the era’s most reliable dancehall voices. Busy Signal’s “Not Going Down” brings a tougher, steadier stance, while Assassin’s “Still Wah More” sharpens the set with his clipped delivery. Alaine’s “Oh Yea” adds a smoother edge, and Sean Paul, Wayne Marshall, TOK, Voicemail, T. O. K. , Tanto Metro and Devonte, Ward 21, Bling Dawg, Looga Man, Red Rat, Sanjay, and the Bugle/Tornado pairing fill out a lineup that moves between party energy, girl records and streetwise boasting.

What keeps Ice Breaka interesting is that it captures a very specific VP era: polished, crowded, and made for juggling in clubs and on radio. The strongest cuts are the ones that lock voice and rhythm together fast, especially Elephant Man, Busy Signal and Assassin, whose styles bite cleanly into the track’s brisk pulse.
