HOPPER RIDDIM produced by UNDERGROUND SOUNDSYSTEM 2021
Hopper Overview
In 2021, reggae music found new life through a rhythm project that honored its roots while bringing fresh energy. The project arrived at a time when roots reggae was again gaining attention, with fans and artists looking for authentic sounds and messages. This rhythm, or riddim, gave singers and deejays a strong foundation—classic reggae drums and bass, with enough space for each artist to shine. Behind the scenes, the studio hand played a major role. UNDERGROUND SOUNDSYSTEM, known for keeping reggae’s original spirit alive, produced the project. This producer has a reputation for working with both new and established reggae artists, focusing on roots revival and quality sound. UNDERGROUND SOUNDSYSTEM’s earlier works have reached reggae listeners worldwide, and their approach has helped roots reggae maintain its place in modern music. The artists on this project each brought their own style. Blackout Ja, a Jamaican artist respected for his powerful voice, delivered “We Are Not Afraid.” Black Dillinger & Moon Queen worked together on “Rastaman Smoke Di Herb,” combining their voices to celebrate reggae’s herbal themes. Perfect Giddimani & Lutan Fyah, both well-known in the reggae world, joined forces for “Herbs In Herbs Out.” Perfect Giddimani is recognized for his hit “Hand Cart Bwoy,” which topped charts in Jamaica. Lambo Kalambo added his touch with “High Q,” while Fitta Warri contributed “Kushum Peng Abeng.” Sizzla, another major name in reggae, brought energy with “Hopper Dubplate.” Looking back, this reggae rhythm project from 2021 kept the roots message alive and connected new voices with reggae’s deep foundation.
