High Rise Riddim - Synthdicate Music

Synthdicate Music’s High Rise Riddim landed in 2018 with a very Caribbean mix of voices and a steady, mid-tempo groove that sits comfortably in roots reggae territory. The production credits point to Victor Wells, Kerneil Wells, and Jason Bevans, and the label footprint is Synthdicate Music NYC LLC, the New York-based indie outfit behind a string of reggae, dancehall, and soca projects. The riddim’s own materials place it in April 2018, and the cut lengths hover around the three- to five-minute mark, giving each singer enough room to work the pocket without dragging the energy.

The beat has a measured, rolling pulse rather than anything frantic, with a clean, digital sheen that leaves space for the vocals to carry the weight. That suits Bugle’s Born A Winner well, since his conscious, melodic approach is built for statements of perseverance. Capleton’s Won’t Go Down brings the familiar fireman pressure, while Fantan Mojah’s Rat Race keeps the anti-system energy front and center. Pressure Busspipe’s What They Sow is one of the more natural fits too, with his smooth Virgin Islands delivery riding the groove in a way that feels grounded and unforced.

Denise Belfon’s Black Woman adds a different color to the set, pulling in a Trinidadian soca veteran whose voice gives the riddim a wider Caribbean reach. I-Sasha, Jah Thunder, Turbulence, Eljai, Nello Player, Spring Water, and Square fill out the cast with songs about struggle, defiance, judgment, and self-belief. It’s the kind of riddim that works because the message stays consistent even as the voices shift, and the stronger cuts sharpen that message instead of repeating it.
