Bragga Phelps leans into a darker, more spectral corner of dancehall here, away from the cleaner party-drive you might expect from a straight riddim package. Haunted Souls runs short and sharp, just four cuts in 11 minutes, with a tense, echo-laced pulse that leaves plenty of room for each voice to cut through. Jed-I kicks things off with “Buss Dem Head, ” Ranico 197 keeps the mood grim on “Sinz, ” and ShaqStar’s “Haunted” feels like the project’s centrepiece, the one that really matches the title’s eerie edge. Zizi closes it out with “Body Pan Body, ” which lightens the temperature a touch without breaking the spell, and that final track helps the whole set land as a compact, midnight-hours dancehall slice.
