Hardcore Riddim (2017) – Kick Dem Records

Kick Dem Records came through with Hardcore Riddim in 2017, and it sits squarely in that tough, streetwise corner of dancehall where the drum pattern does the talking before the lyrics even land. ZJ Bruce Lee handles the instrumental, and the riddim appeared through Kick Dem Records with Fox Fuse distribution. The lineup is a strong one for that era: Sizzla, Delly Ranx, Harry Toddler, Stein, Talis, Empire I, New Kidz, and Tactikal all voice it, giving the project a mix of veteran presence and newer energy.

The production has a blunt, muscular feel, with a hard-driving pulse and enough space for deejays to push aggression, bravado, and gunman flex while still leaving room for more rooted talk. Sizzla’s “Party Settings” brings heavyweight name value and that unmistakable commanding tone he uses when he slips into dancehall mode. Delly Ranx’s “Love Rasta” pulls the energy a little more conscious, which gives the riddim some balance. Harry Toddler and New Kidz on “All Them a Talk” add the kind of combo cut that works well on a juggling set, while Tactikal’s “Best Bunna Man” and Empire I’s “Man Dem Want” keep the street pressure high. Stein’s “Wine Pon It” widens the scope just enough to remind you this is still dancehall built for the dancefloor, not just the warzone. The instrumental closes the circle cleanly, letting the riddim’s raw framework breathe on its own.
