Hard Again Riddim – Payday Music

Hard Again Riddim arrived in June 2020 on PayDay Music, a long-running Jamaican dancehall imprint that has spent years cutting straight-ahead juggling projects and instrumentals. This one sits deep in the hardcore lane: a grimy, stomping rhythm with a heavy low end and a tense, no-frills bounce that gives the vocals plenty of room to cut through.

The lineup brings together some serious names from different corners of the culture. Capleton, the Islington-born firebrand known for his militant delivery and spiritual charge, opens the door with a title cut that feels tailor-made for his bark-and-command style. Sizzla follows with Mad Boss, and his fast, clipped phrasing fits the rhythm’s pressure perfectly. Gappy Ranks brings a more UK-rooted dancehall touch to Dangerous, while Iyara’s Mi Yard and Esco’s Settings keep the energy rooted in hard-edged street talk. Kiprich appears twice, on Galist and My Riches, and that double hit gives the project a nice mid-section punch, showing his knack for sharp one-liners and sly timing. Stacious adds a rougher female presence with Wild Out, and Jah Lep together with Nefatari Cooper push You Can Get It into a more melodic, sing-jay lane. The instrumental closes the set cleanly and lets the production do its talking.

What makes Hard Again work is the balance between heavyweight veterans and younger voices. It is a blunt, sturdy dancehall riddim built for sound system play, with the kind of pressure that rewards a strong deejay and a memorable hook.
