GUNGO RIDDIM produced by ERUPTION 1998
Gungo Overview
The Gungo Riddim was born in a Kingston studio, where the beatmakers worked late into the night. With every drum hit and bassline, the sound started to take shape. The studio was filled with energy as musicians tried different ideas, mixing old dancehall styles with fresh sounds. At the center of it all was the producer known as ERUPTION. Known for his sharp ear, ERUPTION had already made a name in the dancehall world by the late 1990s. He was known for his work with several popular riddims and had a reputation for bringing out the best in artists. His focus was always on making tracks that would move crowds, and with Gungo Riddim, he set out to create something both classic and exciting. The riddim brought together a strong lineup of artists. Angel Doolas & Ras Myrhdak teamed up for "We Are Bionic," delivering powerful verses that matched the energy of the beat. Captain Barkey & Angel Doolas followed with "Gal Maniac," a song that kept partygoers dancing all night. Captain Barkey, especially, is remembered for his earlier hit "Go Go Wine," which helped make him a household name in dancehall. Daddy Screw added his own flavor with "Water Bed." Known for his hit "Big Things a Gwaan," Daddy Screw was already respected in the scene. Greg Hines brought intensity with "Gun A Select," and Kerosene Oil kept the vibe high on "Pajero." Each track had its own style, but together they made a riddim that defined 1998.
