GOVERNOR RIDDIM produced by COSMIC FORCE RECORDS 1991
Governor Overview
The bashment flow on the Governor Riddim came together one late night in the studio. The beat maker wanted a sound that would shake up the dancehall scene in 1991. He built the riddim with strong, heavy drums and sharp snares, making sure every beat was full of energy. The whole idea was to create something that would make people move as soon as it dropped. COSMIC FORCE RECORDS, the producer behind the project, is known for pushing dancehall forward. The label started in the late 1980s and quickly made a name for itself by working with big artists and dropping tunes that sound fresh but still true to dancehall roots. On this riddim, Capleton brings fire with “Mi No Like Dem.” By 1991, Capleton was already getting noticed for his powerful voice and conscious lyrics. His later hit “Tour” would help make him a global reggae name, but here you can hear his early raw style. Cutty Ranks steps up with “Weh The Money Deh.” Cutty Ranks is famous for his deep, rough voice and his big song “Limb By Limb,” which became an anthem in dancehall. On this track, he keeps the energy high. Professor Frisky’s “Mi Come Back” is full of playful lyrics and catchy flow, showing why he was a favorite in the dance. Shaggy Wonder’s “Governor” rides the riddim smoothly, while Simple Simon’s “Sound Boy Die” brings a tough, sound clash vibe.
