GOOD LOOK RIDDIM VOL. 1 – VARIOUS ARTISTS 1993
Good Look Overview
The Good Look Riddim came together in a lively Kingston studio in 1993. The riddim creator, known for sharp dancehall instincts, wanted a sound that would move crowds and keep parties jumping. The focus was on strong, energetic beats that could carry different voices and styles. This direction helped make the riddim a favourite for selectors at dancehall sessions that year. Dargart opened the project with “Mama Ball.” His delivery gave the riddim a raw edge and set the tone for the rest of the release. Fluff 1 followed with “Cut That,” bringing a punchy style that fit perfectly with the upbeat rhythm. Gregory Isaacs, already famous as the “Cool Ruler” and known for his hit song “Night Nurse,” added “Trench Town.” His smooth voice and veteran presence brought a classic reggae feel to the dancehall mix. Ice Man’s “How The West 1” added a modern touch, giving the riddim a fresh twist. Jazzwad teamed up with Shinehead for “Version.” Shinehead was already well-known for blending reggae and hip hop, especially after his popular album “Unity” in 1988. Their collaboration brought extra energy to the project. Selectors loved the Good Look Riddim for its mix of styles and strong performances. Each artist added their own flavour, making it a staple at 1993 parties and a memorable part of dancehall history.
