Gideon Riddim – Chuphshah Entertainment

Low-slung roots. Chuphshah Entertainment kept the Gideon Riddim compact in 2007, with just five cuts and a proper live-wire center in Luciano’s “Life Ain’t Easy, ” which leans right into the cut-and-come-again mood carried by Jah Mason’s “Life Is Not The Same. ” Brimstone’s “Laws And Charge” and Mysterious’ “Aye Boy” sit alongside the Chupshah All Stars version, and the whole thing moves with that spare, militant reggae pulse that leaves space for the vocals to do the talking. It’s a small set, but the sequencing gives it shape, ending on the version like a quick nod back to the rhythm itself.
