Fams House leaned into a more roots-conscious mood on Ghetto Life Riddim, which feels a little different from the tougher, straight-ahead dancehall you might expect from a 2010 juggling. The track that hangs around longest is Konshens’ “Youth Dem A Say Money, ” but Lutan Fyah’s “Dem So Cold” and G Whizz’s “Can’t Believe” also lock into the riddim’s moody pulse, with the whole set carrying a heavy, reflective feel that suits the ghetto narratives running through it. Andrew and Wada Blood, Hyah Slyce, Trapykal, and Wasp keep the pressure on with songs about survival, violence, and hard living, while Fams House holds the arrangement down with a dark, melancholy groove rather than a big club swing.
