Get Flat Riddim – Necessary Mayhem

In 2007 London, Necessary Mayhem kept the dancehall pressure sharp with the Get Flat riddim, a compact six-track set that leans on cheeky talk, rough-edged delivery and a tight, low-slung groove. Curtis Lynch Jr. ’s production gives Danielle Senior’s “Kiss And Tell” and JD aka Dready’s title cut a nimble bounce, while Red Rat turns up twice, first on the brash “Guess Who’s Back” and then on his own medley, which feels like the release’s quickest flash of swagger. Tippa Irie’s “Lyrics That’s My Hobby” and Top Cat’s “Bun De Sensi” keep the veteran energy front and centre, with Top Cat the name that keeps coming up when people talk about this one.
