GENESIS RIDDIM (MORE) – M-PHATIC 2001
Genesis Overview
The Genesis Riddim bashment release from 2001 brought together some of dancehall’s most energetic tracks. Each cut stood out with its own style, but all shared the riddim’s bold, uptempo sound. Alley Cat opened the set with "Nuh Man Confuse," a track that matched the riddim’s sharp beat with confident lyrics. Mr Vegas followed with "Rudey Naw Play," delivering his signature catchy hooks. Mr Vegas is well known for his 1998 hit "Heads High," which topped reggae charts around the world and helped define his place in dancehall. Sean Paul’s "Gal A Bawl" brought a smooth flow to the riddim. At the time, Sean Paul was starting to gain international attention. He would soon become one of dancehall’s most recognized voices, especially with his 2002 album "Dutty Rock," which won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. Spragga Benz rounded out the set with "Dem A Watch," showing his lyrical skill and strong delivery. The producer behind Genesis Riddim was Richard "Shams" Browne, a respected figure in Jamaican music. Shams worked with many top artists and helped shape the sound of modern dancehall. His production on Genesis Riddim gave each artist space to shine while keeping the energy high. When the riddim resurfaced in 2020, it proved that Jamaica’s studios still set the pace for dancehall. The tracks felt as fresh as ever, showing the lasting power of a well-crafted bashment riddim and the artists who brought it to life.
