Gangsta Riddim – Tortura Records

By 2009, Tortura Records and Forma Studio had this five-cut Gangsta Riddim sitting right in that raw, street-hardened dancehall pocket, with a lean lineup and no dead weight. Magnetico’s “Raso” and Murder Cat’s “Dale Valor” set the tone early: clipped, tough, and very much tuned for sound system pressure, while Phantom’s “Donde Tu Tabas” brings a sharper, more taunting edge to the package. Tommy Real closes it out with “Yo No Me Enamoro, ” which gives the set a rougher, more singjay feel and keeps the energy from flattening out. It’s a compact release, just five tracks, and that brevity suits the era — late-2000s dancehall often worked best when the riddim said its piece fast and moved on.
