Gangsta Law Riddim – Im Music

“Gangsta Law” is one of those 2007 conscious-leaning reggae juggling where the title points to conflict, but the cuts keep circling back to pressure, survival and resistance. Im Music lines up a strong cast here, with Luciano’s “Ransom, ” Lutan Fyah’s “No Turning Back, ” Queen Ifrica’s “Stop Genocide” and Michael Rose’s “The Real Man” doing a lot of the heavy lifting, while Ginjah, Natural Black and Turbulence add more grit to the set. The rhythm has that stern, rootsy mid-2000s feel — rugged enough for sound systems, but still warm under the vocals — and it sits neatly alongside the producer’s other reggae work from that stretch rather than chasing anything glossy. With 12 tracks and no weak filler getting in the way, it ends up feeling like a tight snapshot of where IM Music was at in 2007.
