Emotions Riddim – John John Records

John John’s 2007 Emotions Riddim leans into the softer side of reggae, with a run of heartbreak and longing songs that match the title nicely. Mykal Rose’s “Feeling Lonely” has that veteran ache you’d expect from him, while Gyptian’s “Armagedion” and Da’Ville’s “No Ordinary Rose” keep the mood tender without getting syrupy. There’s a nice mix of voices here too, from Angel Doolas on “Where Is The Love” to Demarco’s “I Remember, ” and the project closes with Mitch and New Kidz on “Better Days, ” which adds a little hopeful lift to all the emotion. It’s a compact seven-track set, all cut in 2007, and it sits comfortably in that period when John John was still carving out clean, radio-ready reggae riddims with a strong melodic pull.
