Gang Bang Riddim – High Society

Out of Jamaica’s mid-2000s dancehall churn, this one feels like a little snapshot of the era: sharp, cheeky, and aimed straight at the dance. High Society’s Gang Bang Riddim leaves just enough room for the voices to cut through, and Cecile’s “Johnny” comes off with the kind of sly confidence that makes the whole thing click, while Idonia’s “Bicycle” pushes it a notch rougher and more playful. The version cut keeps the instrumental moving with that lean, bashy energy producers were chasing at the time, and the small three-track lineup gives it a quick-hit feel rather than a bloated compilation. A neat little 2005 slice, all told.
