Fungus Riddim – Danger Zone

Rough-edged and punchy, Fungus Riddim rides a tense 2004 dancehall groove with enough room for the big voices to cut through. Danger Zone’s production pulled in a deep bench, but the tracks that stick hardest are Beenie Man’s wiry “Zigi Zigi, ” Elephant Man’s militant “Conscience Free, ” and the sharp, swaggering turns from Assassin and Vybz Kartel. Ce’Cile and Lady Saw bring a tougher female counterweight, while Hollow Point’s cuts and the Mr. Easy pairing keep the energy flickering through the set. Cordel and Everton Burrell were behind the project, and the riddim sits right in that early-2000s moment when dancehall was leaning hard into sharp percussion, quick-fire hooks, and artist-to-artist rivalry.
