In the year 2000, reggae and dub music were still strong on sound systems. This was the time when roots reggae was making a comeback, and classic riddims were getting new life. One special project from this era was shaped by GARGAMEL MUSIC, a label known for supporting deep roots reggae and bringing big names together. GARGAMEL MUSIC was started by Buju Banton, one of reggae’s most famous artists, and the label helped push roots reggae to new audiences around the world. On this project, Anthony B Ft. Mighty Diamonds came together for “Pass The Kutchie.” Anthony B is known for his powerful voice and conscious lyrics, while Mighty Diamonds are legends in reggae, famous for their original hit “Pass The Kutchie” from 1982. The song became an anthem and was even covered by Musical Youth. Anthony John brings his song “You Won’t See Me Cry,” showing his smooth style and heartfelt singing. Capleton & Uplifter join with “Ready Yah Now.” Capleton is called the “Fireman” and is respected for his energetic performances and hits like “Jah Jah City.” Dub King Tubby’s “Sensimilia Dub” adds the classic dub touch. King Tubby is a pioneer of dub music, known for changing reggae with his mixing skills. This project showed the power of roots reggae in 2000 and kept the culture alive for a new generation.
