FROG RIDDIM produced by JR PRODUCTIONS 1994
Frog Overview
When the bashment release “Frog Riddim” dropped in 1994, dancehall fans quickly made it a favorite. Its energy filled clubs and sound systems across Jamaica and beyond. People loved the raw, streetwise sound and the way each artist brought something different to the mix. Junior Reid’s “Late At Night” stood out, thanks to his signature voice—already famous from his time with Black Uhuru, who won a Grammy in 1985. Ninja Ford kept the excitement high with “Hotter Than Them,” delivering sharp lyrics and a bold style. Roundhead’s “Woman Fe Look Good” added a catchy, playful touch, while Simpleton’s “Swarm Yu” brought his unique flow, building on the success he had with “Coca Cola Bottle Shape” the year before. Steve Harper’s “Can We Talk” offered a smoother vibe, rounding out the set. The instrumental “Frog Riddim” version let the riddim’s horns and bass shine. Behind it all was JR PRODUCTIONS, led by Junior Reid. The label was known for shaping the sound of early ‘90s dancehall and for producing hits like “One Blood.” Their work on “Frog Riddim” showed how a strong riddim and the right voices could set the tone for a whole year in dancehall. This street anthem sound became a defining feature of 1994.
