Freedom Overview
In 2008, the reggae scene was celebrating a roots revival, and the Freedom Riddim became an important part of this movement. The riddim’s foundation sound relied on live-sounding drums and rich dub effects, giving it an old-school feel. This style fit perfectly with community dances, radio shows, and mixtapes that were popular in Jamaica and beyond during that time. The cultural arranger behind the riddim made sure to keep the music true to its roots. Their approach helped bring back the deep basslines and echo effects loved by reggae fans for years. This careful arrangement gave every song on the riddim a classic vibe. The producer listed as VARIOUS ARTISTS managed this project. In reggae, “Various Artists” is often used for compilation albums where each track features a different singer or band. These collections are usually released by independent labels and sometimes reach listeners worldwide through streaming services and radio play. On the Freedom Riddim, several artists delivered strong tracks. Jr King performed “Builder,” showing his message-driven style. Zebulun sang “Life.” Journey contributed “Love Thing.” King Solomon voiced “Living In Love,” while Royal Dainties brought unity with “One Aim.” Gounzman added “Humble,” and Jah Vello performed “Love.” The instrumental version was simply called “Freedom Riddim.” Among these performers, King Solomon is known for his earlier works in conscious reggae circles. Journey has also featured on other notable one-riddim projects in the Caribbean.
