Freedom Horns Riddim – Brukout Records

Brukout Records keeps the Freedom Horns Riddim in that modern roots lane where live-feeling horn lines do most of the heavy lifting. The release landed in January 2020, and the production comes from Seani B and Don Chandler through Brukout, a UK-based reggae outfit with one foot in radio, DJ culture and label work. The whole thing grew out of the Strictly Roots era, which gives the riddim a familiar emotional pull without sounding stuck in the past.

The backbone is all about bright, stacked horns, a firm one-drop pulse and a clean, spacious mix that leaves room for the vocalists to stretch out. The groove feels classic and deliberate rather than rushed, with enough lift in the arrangement to keep it moving from cut to cut. Morgan Heritage set the tone with Strictly Roots, and the instrumental dub version lets the horn motif breathe. Black Uhuru and Agent Sasco bring a tougher edge on Stronger, while Cali P and Capleton turn Dem Ago Burn into one of the sharper culture sides on the project.

Randy Valentine’s No Hype Attached gives the riddim a more contemporary singjay flavor, and Exco Levi’s Blood Is on Your Shoulders pushes hardest into conscious territory. Chukki Starr’s Can’t Break Me Down adds another steady roots voice to the mix. It is the kind of riddim that works because the foundation is strong enough to support different generations, and because the horn hook gives every cut a clear identity.
