FLAWLESS aka HAMMER RIDDIM produced by 2B GRAFTON ROAD 1997
Flawless Aka Hammer Overview
In 1997, dancehall selectors found a new favorite for their sound systems: a fierce riddim built by Flawless, also known as Hammer Riddim. The beat was crafted with hard-hitting drums and infectious melodies that made it a staple at dances all over Jamaica. Flawless’s production style captured the energy of the era, blending classic dancehall vibes with modern club power. Guiding the project was producer 2B GRAFTON ROAD. Known for his sharp ear and work with top Jamaican artists, 2B GRAFTON ROAD helped shape the sound. He had already built a reputation for pushing fresh talent and delivering tracks that stood out in the crowded dancehall scene. The riddim attracted some of dancehall’s most exciting voices. Merciless brought his commanding style to “Sledge Hammer,” a track that echoed his reputation for lyrical strength—fans still remember his 1998 hit “Mavis,” which cemented his place in dancehall history. Alley Cat delivered “Dem Stale,” adding his unique flow and wit. Don Yute, who would later gain international attention with songs like “Row Da Boat,” gave the crowd “Woof Woof.” UT Dread’s “Gal Dem A Gwaan” and GR Crew’s “Gwaan Gal” rounded out the release, each artist bringing their own flavor. From its creation in the studio to heavy play at dances, this sound system cut captured the spirit of late ‘90s dancehall.
