Gurr’s Flash Back Riddim sits in that early-2000s reggae catalogue where the producer is leaning on a clean, melodic one-drop feel and a pretty strong cast of singers to do the heavy lifting. George Nooks’ “Ain’t No One, ” Luciano’s “Stand Your Ground, ” and Lukie D’s “Nagging Me” give the set its most familiar voices, while Spanner Banner’s “Take Heed” and Shaka Pow’s “Energy” keep the rhythm’s message-conscious edge intact. It’s a nine-track project from 2002, with no wasted space and no long detours, just straight vocal cuts riding the same Gurr-produced framework, from Brando’s “Hands Up” through to Delicate, Deserine, Fiona, and the closing Spanner Banner tune.
