FISHERMAN RIDDIM produced by BLOOD & FIRE RECORDS 2006
Fisherman Overview
In 2006, the reggae world felt a strong wave from the Fisherman Riddim, a project shaped by the classic rocksteady flow. The journey started with arranger Carlton “Santa” Davis, whose drum patterns and steady rhythms gave the riddim its heartbeat. This sound, rooted in the late ‘60s, was reborn for a new generation. The project was released by Blood and Fire Records, a UK label respected for its dedication to roots reggae and high-quality reissues. Blood and Fire, founded in 1993, became known for bringing lost reggae gems back to light and for their detailed liner notes. Their touch on Fisherman Riddim made sure the sound was both fresh and true to its roots. The riddim featured legendary artists. The Congos, famous for their classic song “Fisherman,” brought their unique harmonies to the riddim. Big Youth, a pioneer in deejay culture, delivered “Feed A Nation” with his signature style. Luciano, known for his uplifting voice and the hit album “Where There Is Life,” added “Going Home.” Lutan Fyah’s “Whitewash Walls” and Country Culture’s “Make Poverty History” continued the conscious roots tradition. Each artist added their own spirit, making the riddim a standout in 2006. Fisherman Riddim’s journey from creation to release showed how the rocksteady flow still inspires roots reggae today.
