FI WI ROCK RIDDIM produced by KING JAMMYS for JAMMYS RECORDS / AWFUL MUSIC 1998-2000
Fi Wi Rock Overview
Rocksteady is a Jamaican music style that started in the late 1960s. Its slow, steady rhythm became the foundation for reggae. In 1998, this rocksteady flow returned to the spotlight with a roots riddim that brought together singers and deejays on a strong, classic base. Bushman added his voice to this riddim with “Worries And Problems.” Bushman is known for his roots reggae style and positive messages. George Nooks, who had success with the hit “Tribal War,” contributed “Mr Pop It Off.” His smooth vocals have made him a favorite in reggae for decades. Sanchez, famous for his 1999 cover album “Back At One,” brought his version of “Back At One” to the riddim. Sanchez is well known for blending reggae with R&B and gospel styles. Tony Curtis, who started with the group L.U.S.T., gave fans “Six Eight Twelve.” Yellowman, a dancehall pioneer and one of reggae’s first international stars, performed “Dance Wid Me.” Yellowman helped bring dancehall to a wider audience in the 1980s. LLP created the “Fi Wi Rock Riddim Mix,” which ties all the songs together. This project was produced by KING JAMMYS for JAMMYS RECORDS / AWFUL MUSIC. KING JAMMYS is a legendary producer who helped shape dancehall in the 1980s with hits like “Under Mi Sleng Teng.” His label, JAMMYS RECORDS, has released many classic reggae and dancehall songs. Looking back, the rocksteady flow in 1998 helped carry reggae’s roots message into a new era, connecting tradition with fresh voices.
