FACTORY RIDDIM ? Y-NOT PRODUCTIONS 2012

Rough-hewn and very lean, Factory Riddim comes in like a stripped-back early-2010s roots cut, all forward motion and a dry, percussive pulse that leaves plenty of space around the vocal. Sevenfire’s “Baby Gyal” and Fire Torch’s “Im Comin Over” ride the groove with contrasting tones, one sweeter and more flirtatious, the other a little firmer in the delivery, while Y Not closes the set with the title cut itself. With only three tracks on the roster, the project feels less like a crowded compilation and more like a quick snapshot of how smaller reggae productions were keeping the riddim format alive in 2012: concise, local, and built for selectors who liked their roots with a raw edge.
