In 2017, when soca producers were pushing harder into lean, club-ready riddims, Back Ah Yard Records came through with Evolution, a six-track set that keeps the energy sharp and the hooks blunt. Inspector’s “Sugar Daddy” and Jahmel’s “Side Chick” lean into cheeky, party-line themes, while Mandella Linkz’s “Teller Machine” and Mushman’s “Cocking” ride the rhythm with a clipped, percussive bounce that feels made for Carnival sound systems. Rankin Marvin’s “Sea Cat” adds another rough-edged turn before the project closes with the instrumental, letting the pattern and bassline do the talking and tying the whole thing back to Back Ah Yard’s own studio touch.
