ESCOBAR RIDDIM 2003

2003 was a busy year for dancehall, with plenty of lean, hard-edged juggling riddims like Escobar keeping the sound focused and street-ready. This one only carries three cuts, which gives it a tight, no-frills feel: Bigshot Squad’s “Where I Belong” has that earnest, reflective pull, while Warlord comes in tougher on “He’s Bad, ” riding the rhythm with a sharper, more confrontational edge. Ziggy Rankin’s “Challenge Me” rounds things out nicely, and his delivery feels like the cut most likely to catch ears on the dancefloor. With just three artists in the lineup, the riddim moves fast and leaves little room for filler, the kind of 2003 dancehall drop that was made to work straight out of the gate.
