Electric Riddim – Star Trail 1997
Electric Overview
Back in 1997, the Electric Riddim hit the dancehall scene and quickly became a favorite for sound system selectors. This mix had a heavy, driving bassline that made the speakers shake at every dance. The journey started in a small Kingston studio, where the riddim was built from the ground up. The studio craftsman behind the controls shaped the sound, layering drum patterns and deep bass until the groove was just right. Every detail was checked and tweaked to make sure the riddim would stand out in the dance. Once the riddim was ready, the artists stepped in. Anthony B recorded “Swarm Me,” bringing his powerful voice and conscious lyrics. Around this time, Anthony B was already known for his big tune “Fire Pon Rome,” which helped him become a respected voice in reggae and dancehall. Bounty Hunter came with “Destruct Di Eagle,” adding his rough, energetic style. Determine, who had made waves with his hit “Kette Drum,” gave the mix “What You Require,” full of his sharp delivery. Grindsman’s “Dutty Heart” and Iyashanti’s “Rasta No Fear” added even more flavor. Each artist brought their own vibe, but together, they kept the energy high. The final mix was pressed and sent out to sound systems across Jamaica. It didn’t take long for selectors to start spinning these tracks at every session. Even now, selectors remember how Electric Riddim lit up the dance, and these tunes still get a forward whenever they drop.
