Top Of The Hill Music Group’s 2019 Efx Riddim sits in that hard-edged dancehall pocket the label was pushing at the time, with a lean, stripped drum pattern and a sharp low-end pulse that leaves plenty of space for the deejays to cut through. Chinablak’s “Baddest Chick” and Hurrican’s “Faith And Prayer” lean into the riddim’s rougher side, while Milytant and Suggarmassive bring a more melodic touch without softening the attack. There’s a nice little tug-of-war between street swagger and uplift here, which keeps the project moving even when the voicings shift. The closing Seeborn and Charliebrown cut, “EFX Riddim, ” works like a final stamp on the whole set, letting the instrumental carry the weight and underline how tight the production is.
