By 1988, Jammys Records were deep into the digital dancehall era, and Duppy Riddim sits right in that productive stretch, where King Jammy’s cut tight, lean rhythms that left plenty of room for deejays and singers to lock in. The lineup is small but sharp: Johnny P’s “Wine And Push In, ” Major Mackeral and Colin Roach’s title cut, Shabba Ranks on “Best Baby Father, ” and Tuffest with “Joe Grind. ” Shabba’s presence is the big pull here, but the whole set has that late-’80s Jammy’s pressure — clipped, militant, and aimed straight at the sound system.
