DONT GIVE UP RIDDIM 2011
Dont Give Up Overview
In 2011, a group of reggae musicians came together in the studio to create the “Don’t Give Up Riddim.” The culture arranger guided the musicians, making sure the music kept a strong roots reggae feeling. The arranger’s direction helped each artist bring their own style while keeping the riddim smooth and united. The result was a collection of songs that quickly became popular on sound systems that year. Black Money opened the project with “Don’T Give Up Riddim,” setting the tone for the rest of the anthology. Buffalo Bill followed with “Don’T Give Up,” delivering a message of hope and strength. Jah Lyfe added a political touch to the riddim with “Mr. Prime Minister,” showing the power of reggae to speak on important issues. Mykal Rose, known for his time as the lead singer of Black Uhuru and a Grammy winner, brought his unique voice to “Armageddon Time.” His experience gave the riddim extra depth. Prezident Brown, respected for his conscious lyrics, contributed “Did You Rise,” encouraging listeners to stay positive. Rigid’s “Why” added another layer to the collection, rounding out the project. The “Don’t Give Up Riddim” gave new and established voices a stage in 2011, and its uplifting sound made it a favorite in roots reggae circles.
