Daylight Riddim (2011) – Notice Records

Unlike some of Notice Records’ more hard-edged dancehall work, Daylight Riddim sits in a warmer reggae pocket, with a mellow one-drop feel and a sunny, late-afternoon mood that suits the title. The cut pulls in a tidy spread of voices, but Gappy Ranks’ “Daylight, ” Gyptian’s “Through My Window, ” and Jemere Morgan’s “Sunshine Glow” give the project its clearest shape, each leaning into reflective writing rather than big-push lyrics. Adena Myrie, Ras Penco, and Teflon add a little more grit around the edges, keeping the set from floating off completely. It’s a 2011 Notice Records production with 12 tracks and a clean, unhurried pulse, and the key thread running through it is the light bass movement under the skanking guitar and restrained drums, which keeps the riddim bright without rushing the groove.
