Dark Room Riddim comes off like a tight, dark-tinged dancehall set with a clipped, gun-talk energy that suits the title, but it’s the pacing that really gives it shape. Payday Music Group lined up seven cuts in quick succession, and the sequence keeps the pressure high rather than letting the riddim breathe. The project surfaced in September 2014 as a 7-song, 19-minute release, with Masicka’s “Story Teller” sitting right in the middle as one of the sharper turns and Navino closing things out on “War. ” Iyara, Deablo, and Prince Pin all keep the tone hard and direct, so the whole thing feels less like a loose compilation and more like a producer mapping out one mood from the first shot to the last.
