Dandymite Riddim – Wiletunes

Wiletunes keeps Dandymite Riddim in a bruising 2013 dancehall pocket, with a streetwise swing that leaves room for both raw deejay energy and singjay hooks. The instrumental has a taut, driving pulse rather than a loose party bounce, so the vocal cuts land with extra weight. It feels like a juggling made for sound system play: direct, punchy, and built for forwards.

The lineup is anchored by names that mattered in dancehall at the time. Elephant Man, the Kingston veteran long known for his high-energy stage presence, turns Hot Gal Fi True into one of the riddim’s most immediate cuts, and the explicit version hits harder than the radio edit. Spice brings her sharp, no-nonsense delivery to Keep On Talking, while Mad Cobra’s Nuttn Nuh Hard adds the authority of a 90s heavyweight who still knows how to ride a modern rhythm. Ward 21 give the riddim extra character with Tearer (Beggy Beggy), and their combination with Marcy Chin on Right Now widens the palette without breaking the mood.

Tifa’s Hypocrite Smile and Marcy Chin’s Mi Nuh Care sit comfortably in the same lane, but the riddim’s personality comes through most clearly on the more aggressive selections. Point O and Camar’s The System pushes the social-commentary angle, while CK’s Mi Link Heavy and Darrio’s Fed Up fill out a set that feels firmly rooted in the era’s dancehall chatter. Wiletunes had a busy run in that period, and Dandymite sits right in the middle of it as a hard-edged, vocal-heavy release with enough personality to hold its own.
