DANCEHALL ROCK RIDDIM produced by KINGS OF KINGS
Dancehall Rock Overview
In 2001, a new dancehall riddim shook up Jamaica’s music scene. The Dancehall Rock Riddim, produced by the well-known Kings of Kings label, landed in clubs and on radio, quickly becoming a favorite for partygoers. Kings of Kings, led by producer Colin “Iley Dread” Levy, had already built a strong reputation for delivering top-quality dancehall and reggae releases. Their productions helped launch and support many artists’ careers, and the label’s work is still respected in the industry today. The Dancehall Rock Riddim featured some of the biggest names in dancehall at the time. Assassin brought energy and attitude with his track “Do It If Yuh Bad.” Beenie Man and Cecile teamed up for “Doctors,” creating a playful and catchy tune that got people moving. Degree’s “Tonight” kept the party going with smooth lyrics and a strong beat. Elephant Man, always known for his lively performances, delivered “Over Di Wall,” a song that made everyone want to dance. Frisko Kid added his own style with “Everyday,” a track that fit perfectly with the riddim’s upbeat vibe. The riddim also included other artists like G Money with “Nuh Worry Bout You,” Hawkeye’s “Gal Dem Want Di Peg,” Hollow Point with both “Mad World” and “Party,” and Kiprich’s “Nuh Fraid Ah Nuh Man.” Each song brought something different, showing the variety and talent in dancehall at that time. The Dancehall Rock Riddim’s party sound echoed across the island and beyond. Even years later, it remains an important part of dancehall history, reminding us of a time when riddims like this ruled the dance floor.
