Dagga Morning Riddim – Various Artists

A little leaner and rougher than the name suggests, Dagga Morning Riddim lines up six cuts around a spare 2008 dancehall groove, with Ratigan getting the most room to work on “Horny She Horny” in both edit and full form. Nuclear’s “Gwaan So Bad” and Cobra And Spice’s “Dat Mi Want” keep the pressure on, while Nuffy Nuff’s “So” drops into the set with a clipped, no-frills vocal approach. The riddim itself sits on a tight, mid-tempo pulse, all heavy bass and skittering percussion, the kind of pattern that leaves space for the deejays to ride the pocket instead of crowding it. Even the version cut keeps the arrangement bare, letting the drum pattern and low end carry the whole thing.
