Work It Riddim – Big Ship Records

A short 2008 Big Ship piece, this one stays tight with just two cuts and a very practical dancehall feel. Busy Signal’s “Power Cut” and Dr Evil’s “See Dem A Pree” ride the same Vinyl Shotz remix treatment, so the focus is less on variety and more on how the rhythm locks in under both voices. Big Ship were already a reliable Kingston yard at this point, and here they keep the arrangement lean: clipped drums, a firm low end, and just enough space for the vocals to cut through without clutter. Busy Signal sounds especially natural on it, working the pocket with his usual dry confidence, while Dr Evil takes a more alert, watchful approach. It’s the kind of riddim that keeps its head down and pushes forward on a brisk, bass-heavy pulse.
