CULTURE TIME RIDDIM produced by AFRICAN STAR 1997
Culture Time Overview
The Culture Time Riddim dancehall set came together in a Kingston studio in 1997. Musicians and vocalists worked side by side, building tracks layer by layer. The mixing board king guided the session, blending hard beats with smooth melodies. His creative direction kept the riddim fresh but true to dancehall roots. At the center of this project was producer AFRICAN STAR. Known for his African Star label, he helped launch the careers of many reggae and dancehall artists. AFRICAN STAR’s influence can be heard in the clean sound and energetic vibe of the riddim. He is respected for his work with both new and established names in the genre. Each artist brought a unique style to the set. African delivered “Juggle Fi Me Dead,” giving the riddim a raw street feel. Bo Bo Zarro’s “Drought” added a conscious edge, showing his lyrical strength. Capleton, a major figure in dancehall with hits like “Jah Jah City,” gave the set extra fire on “Boom Boom Dance.” Hero’s “Queen Omega” brought smooth vocals, while Jah Thunder’s “Badder Badder” added a tough, confident touch. Other highlights included Military Man with “Cant Conceive,” Sizzla’s “Brutality For Love,” and Terry Ganzie’s “Them Ask A Who.” Selectors still play this compilation for its strong old-school dancehall vibes and lasting appeal.
