Cosmos Riddim – Vybz Kartel Muzik

Cosmos Riddim comes from the Greedy Lion and Vybz Kartel Muzik camp, a label pairing that has leaned on Kartel’s orbit for a string of modern dancehall releases. This one dates back to 2012, and it sits right in that era when Gaza-linked projects were still shaping the sound from Kingston to the wider digital dancehall circuit.

It is a two-cut riddim, but it doesn’t feel empty. Vybz Kartel teams with Stylysh on Love Don’t Lie, and the combination plays like a sharp, melody-first lovers cut with Kartel’s clipped phrasing riding against Stylysh’s feminine edge and direct delivery. Shawn Storm’s Gaza Nuh Tek Dis pulls the mood back toward street pressure, with the kind of loyalist intensity and terse cadences that have defined his work since Vybz Kartel brought him into the music business. Shawn Storm came up out of Jungle in Kingston before connecting with Kartel’s camp, while Stylysh first caught wider attention through Magnum Kings and Queens of the Dancehall and later kept her name circulating with personality-driven singles and a strong female dancehall presence.

The rhythm itself has that early-2010s digital dancehall feel: lean, punchy, and built for voice rather than excess.
