Columbian Drop Riddim produced by Lifetime Records 2010
Columbian Drop Overview
In 2010, reggae fans were treated to a strong compilation built around the Columbian Drop Riddim. The project brought together some of the genre’s most respected artists. Busy Signal, known for his international hit “Night Shift,” delivered the track “Dem Mad.” Dwayne Stevenson, who gained attention for his album “From August Town,” contributed “Backyard.” Easy, Perfect, and Natural Blacks also added their unique voices, with songs like “Fall On My Knees” by Easy, “Happy Birthday” by Perfect, and “Freedom At Last” by Natural Blacks. Another highlight is Nymron’s “Dutty Mind.” The riddim itself was crafted by Lifetime Records, a label that has been active in reggae and dancehall for years. Lifetime Records is recognized for working with both established and rising reggae artists, and their productions often get attention on reggae radio and in the dancehall scene. Their approach to riddim making is to blend catchy hooks with a solid roots reggae foundation, and this project is a good example. Each artist brought something different to the table. Busy Signal’s “Dem Mad” is energetic and sharp, while Dwayne Stevenson’s “Backyard” has a smooth, thoughtful vibe. Easy’s “Fall On My Knees” and Perfect’s “Happy Birthday” show the riddim’s versatility, supporting both emotional and celebratory lyrics. Natural Blacks’ “Freedom At Last” brings a roots message, and Nymron’s “Dutty Mind” adds another layer.
