Hyaklass Records leans harder into straight dancehall pressure here than on some of its more melodic projects, and Choppingz Riddim keeps the focus on blunt talk and money-minded badman energy. The beat has that clipped, percussive drive that leaves plenty of room for the vocals, so Blaq Cognaq’s “Chop Chop” comes off sharp and immediate, while Gybra’s “Money Rain” pushes the hustler theme with a colder edge. Boasy Solgy’s “Lock And Load” adds a tougher stance in the middle, and Sotto Bless closes the vocal run with “Paranoid, ” which suits the riddim’s uneasy mood. There are eight cuts in all, released in January 2021, with clean and raw versions for each song, and the instrumental feel of the final “Paranoid” pair leaves the whole set sounding lean and ready for the clash.
