Stepp Up Riddim – Hyaklass Records

Hyaklass Records kept this one tight: six tracks, six different voices, and no wasted space. The 2017 Dancehall set moves through a compact run of tunes from 2Bad’s “Motivated” and Cyanide’s “Tek Chat” to Star Bingi’s “Real to dI Ting, ” with Tall-Up and Tina-Genius closing things out in the same direct, street-level tone. That kind of sequencing gives the riddim a quick, no-nonsense feel, each cut landing like a separate angle on the same instrumental idea. Hyaklass doesn’t overcomplicate the production either; the tracklist is arranged like a straight parade of voices, with the songs stacked back-to-back and the energy kept lean right through “Pass Dem. ”
