Chikikita Riddim - John John Records

John John Records had a strong early-2000s run under Lloyd “John John” James Jr. , the son of King Jammy, and Chikikita sits right in that lineage of hard-edged Kingston dancehall built for sound clashes and radio juggling. The set is generally filed as a 2004 release, and the same riddim later turned up on Greensleeves’ Chicatita album, which helps lock in its place in that year’s dancehall cycle.

The rhythm has that sharp, taut John John feel: clipped drums, a skittering bounce, and enough low-end weight to keep the DJs moving without crowding the vocals. It works equally well for grimy gun talk and lighter, more playful mic work, which is exactly why the lineup spans so much of the scene’s top-tier talent.

Assassin’s “Man Clown” brings the rude, cutting delivery that made him one of the era’s sharpest commentators. Beenie Man’s “Call Di Doctor” gives the riddim a big-hook, crowd-friendly swing, while Capleton’s “Ask 4 What U Want” pushes the set into fiery, commanding territory. Elephant Man’s “The Ride” adds the manic energy he was known for, and Mad Cobra’s “Sick A Dis” keeps the ganja-and-gun talk lane firmly in place. Ninjaman’s “Plant Seed” is the veteran cut that reminds you how naturally the old-school badman style could still sit over a fresh 2004 dancehall bed.

The Doolas-linked “Walk Di Walk” versions, plus Bling Dawg’s “Too Much Gunshot” and Da’Ville’s “Hands N Da Air, ” give the riddim range: one side rough, one side more melodic, but all of it anchored by a rhythm built for repeat spins.
