CANNON RIDDIM produced by OPERA HOUSE RECORDS 1999
Cannon Overview
In 1999, dancehall music was full of energy and fresh ideas. The bashment flow—known for its fast rhythms and party vibes—was popular in Jamaica’s dancehalls and clubs. That year, a special recording arrived, giving new and rising artists a chance to show their skills. Boom Dandimite brought his style to the track “Fake.” He was known for his work with the Scare Dem Crew, a group that helped shape the sound of late 1990s dancehall. The duo of Buccaneer & TOK worked together on “Rock And Pop Off.” Buccaneer was already known for his hit “Bruk Out,” while TOK would later become famous for songs like “Footprints.” Frisco Kid’s “Vietnam” added more energy to the mix. Frisco Kid had made a name for himself in the 1990s with songs like “Gal Pon De Side.” General Degree performed “Row.” He was recognized for his clever lyrics and hits such as “Traffic Blocking.” Red Rat’s “Mi Bend” brought his unique voice and playful style. Red Rat was well known for his hit single “Shelly Ann.” The producer, OPERA HOUSE RECORDS, was behind this project. The label became respected for supporting dancehall and helping new talent get noticed. Fans heard these songs at parties across Jamaica in 1999, making the riddim a favorite in the dancehall scene.
