By late 2019, dancehall was deep into a run of lean, digitally sharpened riddims, and Cangle Light fits that moment neatly with a compact 11-track set from Syntaxicated Music. The project leans on a clean, clipped drum pattern and a bright, skittering pulse that leaves room for the vocals to cut through, with Davianah’s “Stay Strong, ” Don Pree’s “Living It Up, ” and Maestro Don’s “Young Bud Know Storm” among the sharper cuts. Sanjay “Xyhntax” Bell, the hand behind Syntaxicated Music, was using this debut riddim as a calling card, and you can hear that focus in the way the instrumental keeps the arrangement stripped back and tidy. The whole thing moves at a moderate dancehall pace, with a tight low end and a forward push that makes the raw and clean versions feel like part of the same working studio frame.
